crontab vs systemd service for a cleanup task

I have been thinking about automating cleaning up unused docker containers and I have been stuck on what to use. Both crontab and systemd services look like a great option. Are there any huge differences between them? A small shell script would be ran as root.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
