Something terrible is happening with my printer

Hello.

I can't get my printer *Brother DCP-L2540DW * to work for the life of me. It used to work no problems, I deleted the CUPS config because of reasons... (I didn't notice that the usb wire wasnt plugged in smile smile) and now I can't get it back working.

I can scan though no problem but not print.

I don't have good visibility on what is happening. I get some `HTTP_STATE_WAITING Closing for error 32 (Broken pipe` in `/var/log/cups/error_log` but I don't really understand what I need to do to fix it.

I tried installing these drivers:

- brlaser driver
- brother-dcpl2540dw-cups

neither works.

I also see something `"cfFilterChain: pdftopdf (PID 137145) exited with no errors."` in the cups interface under jobs.

Can someone please help me with setting up the printer again?

Thanks kindly in advance.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/CUPS/T … #Debug_log
After restarting cups, try to print something, then post the log.

Also

nmap <printer_ip>

(maybe is has IPPE support)

Re: Something terrible is happening with my printer

Hello seth.

I want to use a usb cable. I prefer not to fiddle with IP addresses, routes and the like right now. I just have a usb connection to the printer now.

Do you have any suggestions in such a case?

Re: Something terrible is happening with my printer

You can skip the nmap query in that case, the cups debug log will still be helpful to see where we're at.
(HTTP_STATE_WAITINGis from the cups webserver at http://localhost:631)

I tried installing these drivers:

Were either of them installed before?
Though you didn't mention uninstalling anything, nb that many of those drivers silently depend on "which".
